The default SQL Server service is running with the user account [ NTAUTHORITY\NetworkService]. This account is member of a local security group: SQLServer2005MSSQLUser$<servername$><instancename>. Fixing your backup and restore problems can be done by giving the SQLServer2005MSSQLUser$<servername$><instancename> local group Modify rights to the folder.
