Read the procedure carefully before starting!
Expand
EVERY
sub container underneath of the departed Domain Controller. Expand
ALL
containers until the words "
No children" are found under each container. Otherwise there will be orphaned objects in the Active Directory. The
website is not available now. Download the PDF document
here
Clean up site information
Also remember to clean the Dead Domain Controller server from the Active Directory (AD DS) Sites information using the Administrative tool "Active Directory Sites and Services". Open the site that contained the Dead Domain Controller, right click the DeadDC and delete it.
When you now run DCDiag to check your Active Directory (AD DS) there should be no new registered events of the DeadDC. Read more about the essential DCDiag tool for Active Directory domain management.
